2017 EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award and Outstanding Entrepreneur Award

The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year award, known worldwide as “Entrepreneur Olympics”, held the Taiwan Awards Gala at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei on November 29, 2017. Eight finalists of the award were announced. Dr. J. W. Kuo, Chairman of TOPCO Group, won the country and regional award of Taiwan EY Entrepreneur of The Year, and will represent Taiwan in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2018, where he will compete with the country and regional winners of the world in the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year award.

The six categories of the 2017 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards are: Advancing Pioneer Entrepreneur Of The Year, Multi-dimensional Leader Entrepreneur Of The Year, Sustainable Innovator Entrepreneur Of The Year, Forward Thinker Entrepreneur Of The Year, Business Paradigm Entrepreneur Of The Year, and Leading Creator Entrepreneur Of The Year. Two categories of the 2017 Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year are Alliance Strategist Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year and Cultural Maverick Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year to recognize the emerging entrepreneurs with potential and vision. Hank Lin, managing partner of EY Taiwan, pointed out that, since its co-hosting in 2005, the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards have honored 68 entrepreneurs who have made outstanding contributions to Taiwan’s economic and social development. They have demonstrated outstanding business operations and growth. Innovation is the soul of entrepreneurship, honesty is the cornerstone of entrepreneurship, and adventure is the nature of entrepreneurs. For the winner of this year, they are all admirable entrepreneurs for their vision of leadership and business planning, forward-looking and sharp vision, and careful but bold progress. Mr. Lin further pointed out that cooperation is the essence of entrepreneurship. Many entrepreneurs are deeply connected through industries so they can open up the territory of business, and in turns, help the company to achieve breakthrough development.

The 2017 EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award is once again led by Paul Hsu, Chairman of Taiwan Institute of Directors, along with seven other independent juries composed of industry and academic circles. They have gone through professional initial evaluation procedures such as written preliminary examination, field visit and trial review to select eight outstanding entrepreneurs based on six key criteria: entrepreneurial spirit, corporate financial performance, strategic development direction, global influence and innovation, personal integrity and influence, and corporate social responsibility.

Advancing Pioneer Entrepreneur of The Year was awarded to Lee Pei-Lin, Chairman of CHC Healthcare Group. He reduces the cost of hospital operation by implementing “one-stop, full-scale customization” to benefit the general public and improve the medical environment. He also utilizes the scope of public welfare which revolves around the medical industry, and uses the profession to help the disadvantages. He acquires oversea companies in his name and enhances the Group’s medical equipment to build up the Group’s international recognition and brand name.

Multi-dimensional Leader Entrepreneur Of The Year was awarded to Kuo-chou Tsai, Chairman of Ginko International group. He is visionary and has unique position in the Mainland market. The brands or companies he acquired always generate profits. He develops a market strategy based on credit sales and has an outstanding performance in cross-section operations. Yu-bei Wang, the General Manager of Nang Kuang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was awarded with Sustainable Innovator Entrepreneur of The Year. He leads the company with a focus on medical morality. His bold strategy in investing companies that creates quality is favored by the international community. His leadership style and rich experience have contributed and benefited the development of the industry a lot. He is an industrialist with Taiwan spirit.

Li-Pai Chen, the CEO of ADATA Technology Co., Ltd. was awarded with Forward Thinker Entrepreneur Of The Year due to his unique vision, understanding of the market, and quick reaction to the market pulse. He pays attention to talents and patents, and puts a lot of efforts to invest in research and development of innovative patent. He gains advantages with his own brand and builds up a global network. He also participates in public welfare activities in person and implements corporate social responsibility. Dr J.W. Kuo, Chairman of TOPCO Group, started from scratch with an entrepreneurial spirit. He gains trust through his strengths and value-added services and solidifies the relationship with the parent company. He also uses his semiconductor expertise and tries to diversify operations. He has contributed a lot to academics in management and society. As a result, he was awarded with Business Paradigm Entrepreneur of The Year. Leading Creator Entrepreneur Of The Year was awarded to Maggi Chen, Chairwoman of Chenbro Micom Co., Ltd. She is passionate about the company and is strongly affectious. She focuses on the core business market, clearly positions the company, and grows the company steadily with a high profit. Her vision is unique and her sense is sharp. And she meticulously manages the company to maintain a sustainable business. She also actively invests in cultural and artistic business.

2017 Emerging Entrepreneur of The Year includes Alliance Strategist Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year and Cultural Maverick Emerging Entrepreneur of The Year and were awarded to Fong-Tai Wen, Chairman of VTeam Financial Services Group and George Hsieh, Chairman of Hualien International Multimedia. Ltd., respectively. Fong-Tai Wen is a true thinker and his service is innovative. He has built a platform which weaves through and connect all parties to create a superior platform. His company also plays a major role in the competitive Mainland market. His strategy is excellent, and has its own unique features regarding the conversion plan among different platforms. The future growth is unlimited. Mr. Hsieh leads the cultural business with an enterprise operation in mind and revolutionizes the film culture. His strategy is to strategically merge with strong distribution channels and greatly enhance the width of business operations. He also actively invests in and develops IP, a model that is forward-looking. Both his film investments and productions are box office hits, ranking among the leading players in Taiwanese film industry.

The managing partner Hank Lin emphasized that this year’s award-winning entrepreneurs are enthusiastic about their own business and industry. The EY Entrepreneur of The Year award is honored to recognize the extraordinary achievements of these entrepreneurs, and their participation has added more glory to EY Entrepreneurs of The Year award legacy. He also thanked the previous winners for not only continuing the EY Entrepreneur of The Year award legacy, but also witnessing the moment when Taiwanese companies continue to break through and rise above on the world stage.
